The Wrap Up:
Another year, another tight one in Rockem Land, in fact in competition for the top 3 winner spots this season was by far the closest things have ever been. Everyone sorted themselves more at the bottom though, as Bull almost set a record for futility. He escaped Eben's “achievement” of 27 total points for a season by 1 measly point with a full 28. His garbage season was lost from the beginning with injuries but Vig and Eben were above him hovering over the bottom each at various times making small runs up the charts. McNally finishing 9th deserves a mention because the first half of the season his team looked dead in the water with Bull at the bottom, but he made a second half escape to semi respectability.
The middle third begins with Winston and his squarepants who was in it until his whole team got roofied while Jeff was in Japan and they couldn't recover. Like Don, the Commishes team had a horrible first half but pulled it together to finish seventh however, they could never threatenany higher. Tom on the other hand had flashes of brilliance and made moves but couldn't get out of the 6th spot to end. Birdie rounds out the middle and he must be disappointed with this finish as he was in contention into the final month but couldn't eat for free.
The top is where all the action was this year, a half a point kept Mike from eating for free and in the 4th spot looking in on the wieners, and that one hurts as he had a great year. Fatone has made it a habit to eat for free the last few years and be in contention for the title right down to the final days, but he hasn't been able to get across the finish line.
The top two came down to the last fricking day and Moon was edged out by the all-time Champ as Jay settled for the silver medal and BK took home the EET's A BOAT for the 537th time in Rockem History….He did it on the arm of Cole Hamels who threw a CG on the final day to hurl BK into the top spot while knocking Moon out of it at the same time. It was a final day for the ages, and this league is so god damn tight it is ridiculous. Congrats BK, congrats to everyone else who are obviously only playing for second place at this point.
Continuing a tradition that is Meh at best…unlike this picture which is Boosh at worst.
MVRSFP- The Most Valuable Rockem Sockem Fantasy Player goes to….
Josh Donaldson- While the heart attack machine was strapped to the back of a second place finish it was not the fault of Donaldson who turned a third round pick into a 6th overall finish. While Byrce was a Beast and Kershaw pitched his face off, it was Donaldson who powered Moon's attack and almost helped him win.
Rockem Sockem CY- Goes to the best fantasy pitcher this year, and the voters have spoken:
Clayton Kershaw- Two years in a row he wins this…wait Moon had the MVRSFP and the CY Young winner and he still didn't win?! How is that possible?! Oh…BK.
The Zeddemore Poles Coach of the Year Award: Goes to the best Rockem Manager (named for Winston's Historic 11 point last day jump in 2008):
Brian Kelly- I mean…how can he not be?
The Eric Hinske Memorial (he's dead right?!) goes to the Biggest Bust of the Year:
Yasel Puig- As with every year this one could have a lot of candidates: Hanley, Giancarlo, Carlos Gomez. all got consideration, but Puig…while he was hurt, delivered nothing to any one who owned him. 79 games, and nothing but disappointment all around, this one hurts but Puig translates as “bust” for 2015.
The Edwin Encarnacion Elation goes to the biggest positive surprise of the year who was drafted late (after 10th Round)
AJ Pollock- This is the easiest award to hand out this year and a major reason why BK is sailing on the Eeets A Boat again. Pollock was taken 177th and finished 7th overall. THAT is how you win this league.
The Nomar Broken Everything Award (Player's injuries who sink a team):
Giancarlo Stanton- Another award that every year has tons of candidates: Gomez, Hanley, Puig, Your Mom's but if Giancarlo stays healthy, which is getting to be a habit, then Birdie has a real shot at winning this year. Oh well…
The Cliff Lee Award: (FA Pickup that changes the league, named for Bull snatching Lee in Rockem 7)
Dallas Keuchel- I lied earlier with what I said about Pollock, this was the easiest award to give out. Dallas wasn't even drafted and he ended up being rated 9th overall. THAT is how you win this league. In writing the history of Rockem 15 you can look to these two and curse them because it means Brian Kelly wins yet again.
