The Wrap Up:

The 2024 regular season is in the books and some Rockem Sockem history has been made in our 23rd season. SInce we have gone to our standard 6×6 scoring in Rockem III, the highest point total had been gained by BK in 2011 with 124, a shockingly high number. Well move over BK because there is a new high score in town! Your (not so) humble Commish has just registered his third championship with a whopping 126 point total, setting a new high water mark.

You all lost to this chump.

My team was pretty dominant all year, but it was never truly a runaway until September. At the All-Star break I was tied with BK and he held strong all season, putting up 109 points which would be enough to win…most years. Third place was also never in doubt, with Bull locking it down in July, making the second half much less eventful than in recent years. This is also the first time we have had the top three in the 100's since 2015 which shickingly saw 4 teams put up over a 100.

Jay Vig, had a solid campaign, led by an insanely good pitching staff to carve out 4th place while McNally slowly crept up from the bottom, continuing his second half success from past years, to lock down 5th. We had a tie at 6th with Mike who had touched the top briefly and Jeff who spent most of the first half towards the bottom, so they meet in the middle, that is fitting.

Birdie just missed out on 69 points by a .5, not nice, to finish 8th, Moon struggled all season but couldn't end up higher than 9th and I think Eben and Fatone decided to take this season off finishing 10th and 11th. They were bad but Tom continued to underachieve in mighty ways, putting them to shame finishing 12th. He will have to buy a round of shots for everyone at the dinner but the way his team collapsed, he may just drink them all himself to forget this season.

THE ROCKEM SOCKEM AWARDS aka The Sockies!

MVP Shoei Ohtani - SPD

sockies2024.pptx.jpg

Quick bit of info, Ohtani was not going to win this award until the middle of September. He was still the #2 rated player behind Judge until he went apocalyptic to end the season and deliver his team to the top of Rockem and win the MVP. As stated, Judge was second in voting here (even though he didn't help Wilson much) and a tip of the cap to Bobby Witt Jr. who gave BK a hell of a season.

CY Skurbal - Vig

sockies2024.pptx1.jpg

Jay Vig had an amazing pitching staff this year, an all-timer and Skurbal was the clear head of the class. FInishing 14th overall and as the best pitcher in the game he earned his first CKCY and he might be good to go for a few more before his career is wrapped. While Sale, Wheeler, and Gilbert deserve mentions for great seasons, they were not number 2 in the voting. That would go to Clase who, in only 74 innings pitched, managed to be ranked 23rd overall, best season from a reliever in Rockem History? Maybe…I don't feel like doing the research.

Coach Winston.

sockies2024.pptx2.jpg

Could have gone a few ways with this one, but will give it to the guy who the award is named after. I thought this team was just awful post draft, picking Jeff dead last. He made 107 moves and ended up tied for 6th overall, that is some coaching. Honorable mentions to the top 3 and Vig as well. McNally had a real shot here finishing 5th, but I can’t give a manager of a year award to someone who left over 100 innings out there and was under by 50 games played in UTL alone, if Don played all his guys he would have been top 3. So as it stands, Winston's climb from the bottom gives him this prestigious award.

Bust: Adolis Garcia - Moon

sockies2024.pptx3.jpg

This could have gone a few ways. In fact Corbin Carroll and Julio Rodriquez were going to split this thing until both had huge Septembers and made their seasons respectable…if still disappointing. Siemen sucked, Goldschmidt was a disaster and Alexis Diaz and Bednar gave a good case as to why some in this league never draft closers. Maybe Adolis wasn't the worst, but ranked 193rd with a stat line of 130/580 68 25 85 11.224 .684 and being healthy all year? That busty.

Post 10th Ozuna - Mike

sockies2024.pptx4.jpg

Tons of possibilities for this one this year. Sale almost won the Cy and Birdie drafted him in the 12th round, Jeff got Ragans in the 13th and Bull famously nabbed Skenes in the 21st…he make it to the 3rd round next year? I think not. BK had Duran, Addames and Helsely after the 10th and they dominated. He almost split this award with Mike for quantity, but quality wins out. We all could have had Ozuna, multiple times and he ended up ranked 8th, Mikes highest rated player, and he got him in the 11th round.

Injury Tatis and Strider - DMac

sockies2024.pptx5.jpg

Like post 10th pick, lots of options here, Bird let us all know his injury woes, but Bo Bichette was a huge one. Of course Tom was sunk by Acuna and Yamamoto and Vig by Trout. Nolan Jones wasn't good to Winston and BK could have really used Albies and Glasnow down the stretch. However, with Tatis playing half assed all season and Strider going down in April Donny never really had a chance, hence this award.

Pickup Brent Rooker - Tom

sockies2024.pptx6.jpg

BK drafted him, and sure would have loved to have kept him, but Tom swooped in, picked up Rooker and boy did that A deliver. Finishing 9th overall Rooker led Tom to…well 12th place, but that wasn't his fault. Other worthwhile grabs were BK grabbing Profar for his amazing rejuvenation, Jackson Merrill to Vig. Lugo and Yates to Winston and the Commish's pick up of Eugenio Suarez who was one of the top players of the second half, helping out with that third title.

WW Spirit Award - Catalina.

sockies2024.pptx7.jpg

Well this is a tough one. Posthomeonus as the Chit Chatty one is no longer with us, but his creative spirit will live on through Rockem. We are naming the cup officially, The Catalina Cup.
